Hi Ron,
You are right the rubber spacers do provide some shock absorbing for your
'Coupe but the strut is what provides the damping to soften the amount of
force the donuts see. It does this by forceing fluid into the piston
through
an orifice. When you take off the strut extends and the fluid is sucked or
drained back into the cylinder. The stroke of the strut is very important
because if you lessen it you give up some of the damping that it can
provide. That means that the donuts have to work harder and will not last
as
long. This action keeps our landings soft and keeps those expensive spars
happy. :)
