I am sure some one can answer the question better than me but my guess is it would be ok. The only care that needs to be taken is that they do not buff off the paint from the high spots of the rivets.

He surprised me for my birthday by buying me two big bottles and a tub of some stuff, (apparently expensive, wish he'd have asked first) and they are planning to take some kind of industrial buffer to it.
