Hello again--almost forgot, I want to put a new cork on my old header tank

site guage. Here is the problem the wire is stainless
steel the cork is held in place by a soldered on washer on top and a
soldered
on washer on the bottom too with the cork sanwiched between them-- in the
wire- sounds simple huh !! the solder doesn't stick to the stainless
wire
and putting on the bottom washer screws up the cork cuz the big old iron
is
hot-- how was this done ? I'm not kidding I thought this would be a piece
of
cake not a piece of *&^%$## so now I have a partly cinged or burnt
blacken
cork and washers that aren't on right what's the trick.
I have a new guage on the plane I though this would be a good spare just
in
case
