Hi Harry.

Thanks for writing. You bring up several interesting points, especially
about so-called the A and B models and the ERCO IL116 inline-inverted 4
cylinder and what might have happened had it remained the stock power
plant. I think your message went only to me and the list should see your
comments as well so I am forwarding there.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the chart.....I have seen it before, and always want to
comment.
I realize it is not Your chart.

I don't think there was ever any 415A & B, simply 415. Then there was the
Continental engine installation, which I think became 415C. Its been
difficult to confirm all of this, but from Fred's Bio, and other sources,
I
am convinced (at this time) this is the case.

There is evidence that the # 415 resulted simply from a work order
number.....

Before the Continental engine, the Ercoupe was certified with the ERCO
IL116
inline inverted 4 cyl engine. It was replaced by Continentals when they
became available and were several hundred $ less expensive that the ERCO
built engines.

Shame, tho, for the IL-116 would probably have been developed into the
more
powerful engine we all want, and with the streamlined cowling, we probably

would see the airspeeds claimed in the literature. Ha.

Anyway, bottom, line --The Ercoupe is a great airplane - comparable with
today's commercial production, and a lot of fun.

The chart Harry refers lists manufacturers, number built, dates of
manufacture, original price, and engines of all 'Coupes, 1939-1970, and
was
on the list last week under this subject thread. It is also on Tom
Laird-McConnell's very handy Web site at:

http://www.iciclecreek.com/ercoupers/ercoupers_faq.htm

Alternatively, I will send the chart as an e-mail attachment to anyone who
requests it as a Microsoft Word 6.0 file, or plain ASCII text if
preferred.

regards,
Steve
