George,

the Mooney M-10 does indeed have toe breaks and "normal" rudder pedals who
are controlling the vertical stabilizer. I am not sure what you guys call
the "extended baggage area", but that might be due to me not having flown
an
Ercoupe 415 as yet. In the M-10 there is, however, a sort of small baggage
compartment behind the two seats. The seats flip forward for better
access.
A bag of modest size fits in nicely together with a headset case, and I
have
heard that this area can also be configured as a "child seat" facing
sidewards, i.e. 90 degree off the direction of travel. There is no cover
for
that area, but sometimes I wish there were one to just cover it up to make
it look nicer. The maximum load allowed in that area is 90 pounds, but
that
figure sounds highly hypothetical to me given the rather limited total
gross
weight of the plane (1450 lb in my M-10).

During my research for a plane, which resulted in buying N9547V, I have
flown one A2-A. This aircraft was equipped with the standard "break bar"
in
the foot area of the cockpit and thus did not have toe breaks. It did have
rudder pedals, though, and I understand this to be standard equipment in
this type of airplane. The baggage area configuration was the same as in
my
M-10, i.e. a baggage area behind the two front seats.

I think the number of A2-As built was lower than 52, somewhere in the 30s,
but I do not have factual evidence of this. There were 57 M-10s built in
1969 and 1970. Out of that number, 53 are still on the FAA registry. I am
not aware that any other M-10 is flying outside of the United States, but
it
might well be the case.

Hope that helps.

Best regards

Stefan in Tokyo
