The sealant most commonly used for repair is "PRK."  The
rivet which is leaking is usually removed, then a new
CherryMax rivet coated with PRK is inserted and set.  It may
be possible to just coat around the offending rivet head to
stop the leak, but most important is to clean very
thoroughly, with MEK if possible and don't leave any debris
inside.  Doing the job right usually means first removing
the tank.

I don't believe the factory used any coating on the outside
of the tank.
