The book says to jack up the airplane until the wheel
leg is fully extended and then remove the plug and fill to oil runs out. I found
it to be more convenient and less messy to fill the struts up to the fill hole
while I had the struts off for donut replacement anyway. But even if I were
not replacing the donuts I think I would do it the same way. It is a simple
matter to remove the bottom bolt and pull the strut assy. off. Of course I would
replace the rubber "O" ring any time you pull the strut off.
