Hey Steve,
Calm down buddy. You're getting all excited about something that
you
took in the wrong context.
I'm the one that first mentioned "crutch" but if you'll re-read
that
sentence you'll see that I didn't call a rudder pedal a crutch. I said a
rudder pedal is like a crutch, some people need then and some don't.
Merely a reference, not a comparison.
What if I'd said an airplane is like a wife, some people need them
and
some don't. Now, did I say a wife was lousy? No way! You just didn't
read it the way I wrote it. All airplanes are good, no they're great.
Just that some are better for some people and the others are better for
other people.
As an example, did you ever see a person confined to a wheelchair
fly a
Cessna or a Piper? Of course not, but have you ever heard of the
"Wheelchair Pilots Association", they all fly Ercoupes because they
don't have rudder pedals. There's even an STC to modify the door for
easier entry and wheelchair storage in the coupe. Now, if I said all
other planes were 'worthless' to a person in a wheelchair would you take
it that I was saying that the plane was worthless or, as I stated, it
was worthless to that particular person.
I've got lots of hours in a C150 all the way up to my private in
fact,
but I never wanted to own one. I've also got quite a bit of time in
Pipers J-2 up to Turbo Arrows and one flight in a twin. But, I also
don't want to own one of them. I took one flight in an Ercoupe and
bought it on the spot. All the others are TO ME as usefull as a crutch,
I just don't need them. I have two planes, one with pedals and one
without. And I much prefer the coupe over the Bipe and it's pedals.
Let's get off of this subject about which plane is best, I think
that
all planes are 'best' according to what the person is looking for in a
plane. If I was rich I'd probably own a Leer or a Concord so I could go
to London for the week-end if I felt like it. Then, that plane would be
best for that particular use. And when I got home I'd go for a ride in
my coupe and at that time the coupe would be best. The best thing mny
bipe is good for right now is collecting dust.

Like I said before, FLY OFTEN AND FLY SAFE ..... ;-)
