I've said this before and I'll keep saying it until I die. Used cylinders
are the preverbial pig in a poke unless you know first hand that they are
no
more than first run cylinders. Most cylinders do not last through 5 or 6
thousand hours. that means that if they've been to more than one TBO,
they
probably WON'T make it to the next one. A welded cylinder is like a rusty
car with a fresh coat of paint. It WILL crack again, probably within the
next several hundred hours. If you have a set of cylinders that you know
the history on, know that have never been welded, and have 2000 or fewer
hours, then by all means go ahead and re-use them. If you don't know
where
they've been then I wouldn't use them, unless they're free. For another
$100 or so you can overhaul them and you're only out $400. Otherwise, go
with new. You should be able to find them for around $700 US, try A.E.R.O
or ECI, and fly worry free for 1800 hours. Then overhaul them and go
again.
(Your mileage may vary).
