Ed gave you good advice, from what I've read on the list before on this subject.  The original coupe ashtray, had a sliding cover, just because of the "vacuum" effect of opening the windows.  Might I suggest that in addition to a "trial run" you try a power off stall ( to get rid of prop wash) at the time of dispersal.  To do this you should have someone else on board to do the deed while you fly the plane.  Just a thought.
