Thanx, Carl
For bringing up Jeanies Teenie. My father subscribed to Popular
Mechanics and I was fascinated by that plane. Especially the part
about few tools being used - you bent the wing over two-by-fours.
Had a chance to buy one, but it was too small for me. Coupe is a
better fit, but the JT first put the idea in my head that I could own.
Why this history applies to the Ercoupe Mailing List is bacause of
another plane from that time, using that technology - the MiniCoupe.
You guessed it. It was a VW-powered, single place, tri-geared, just
like the you-know-what. There were several in the Greater Portland
area `bout then (late 60's, early 70's). I saw one at the Tillamook
Navel Air Museum when the Oregon Ercoupe Erforce had their July meeting.
Seems to me I saw one in Creswell, Oregon. Now that would be one
interesting enterprise - install trailing arm main gear, limit the up
elevator travel and see just how close you could come... :-)
