To the list:
Since adding the El Reno oil filter to the C-85, I have had some
requests
as to any improvements in lowering the oil temperature, so I will update
with
info. from this last week. With OAT of 90 degrees and normal climb and
cruise the oil temp ranged from 175 - 205 for a 1 hour flight. Today with
OAT
at 80 degrees, max oil temp was 195 again after 1 hour. On approach to
landing it will decrease to about 160.
So far this appears to be about 10-15 degrees cooler than without the
filter. The filter was added for better filtering, but the cooler oil is
an
added bonus. I personally don't like to see the oil temp above 200,
although
I guess its allowed to reach 220 or 225 max?
