Joa, as to the water entering around the wire......Buy a silicone baby bottle nipple (they are clear silicone plastic, and come in packages of three), and using a heated needle, make the hole slightly larger.
After flying, place the nipple over the wire, and slide it down as far as it will go. Makes a nice "cap", and prevents water from flowing down the wire. Works great, and is simpler than trying to make a tin cover, or replacing the cap with a Hole-less one. Remove before flight. BTW, you might want to tie the tail down, and using a hose try to syphon any water from the wing tanks --place the hose end at the rear of the tanks toward the center of the A/C.
