Folks,
I don't think this is a smart thing to do. When I bought my coupe, the
previous owner
said that he had looped the airplane several times before he decided to
sell it.
I looked the bird over pretty well before I gave him any money. I
especially
looked at the wing condition where the false spar is connected. I
personally
believe that this is the weakest place on the rag wing. (not on the metal
wing)
I was at a gathering at Oshkosh where the Ercoupe designer (Fred Wieck)
spoke to us about the design limitations of the coupe. He said "we dove
the aircraft to destruction. THE WINGS FOLDED AT ABOUT 145 MPH."
I am sure some of you folks have seen some very high airspeeds in your
coupes
and each airplane will probably have its own breaking point, but I just
don't
think it is worth it. Especially if you have grandchildren or anyone else
that gives a darn about you.
