Coupers,

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents about stripping your instrument
panel.
Taking it out of the plane before stripping it is good advice. Most paint
strippers will ruin your plexiglass windows if they come in contact with
them.
Some might even fog the plexi just from the fumes. Whoever stripped and
painted my Alon got a few spots of stripper on the plexi, and it ate into
the
plexi pretty deep. It won't polish out. Taking the panel out of the
plane
also makes it much easier to work on.

Also, when you are working on your panel, if you have miscellaneous screw
holes or other defects that you need to fill, there is an epoxy-like
material called Metal-Set A4 (spelling?) that is excellent for doing this.
It
is a gray 2 part epoxy glue that is easy to work. It has the consistency
of
bondo when it's wet, and when it dries it works almost like aluminum. You
can
file it, drill it, etc. You can fill holes with it and then wet sand it
down
and paint over it and the holes will disappear. It's been quite a while
since
I bought any Metal-Set, but I believe it's still available. It's good
stuff.
