I have seen one early Ercoupe and it had a 65, And I remember, correct
me if I am wrong, that it carried less fuel; maybe only 14 gallons. I
have forgotten the difference between an A-65 and an A-75. Post Script
inserted here: Just read Wade's posting and saw that the changes are not
minor but major internal differences. One thing though, is to see what
prop is specified for the 65 and compare that to the prop specified for
the 75. No matter what the engine is labeled (you said the man you
bought it from said it is a 75 and IF IT IS ???) the prop is going to
make the performance difference. If you change it to a 75 and continue
to use the prop specified for the 65 you will probably see no advantage;
until you install the 75 prop.

Did the 65 have an electrical system? Seems like the one I saw did not.
Makes it a lot lighter. No generator, no starter, no battery, carried
less fuel; all of which resulted in a good bit lighter plane. If you
keep it light, put out 75 hp and use the 75 prop (which develops peak
torque much sooner in the power curve than does the 85), you should see
some nice improvements in performance.

McCauley metal prop for the 75 is 7451(or 7351,can't remember which), for
the 85 is 7150. Don't know what the Sensenich prop diameter and pitches
are, here at my office, but I have their list at home. Call Sensenich in
Lakeland, FLA and ask them to mail you the list of wood props and their
list of metal props listing all the props for all the planes. Be sure
to use a prop for the 75 if you change it to 75 hp or if it already is 75
hp and check and see which prop is on it now. If you have a metal prop,
it is probably the right length for the 65 or 75, just check the pitch.
