According to the Continental Service Bulletin M47-16 dated 12-30-47, major
internal parts were changed including the crankshaft, piston and rod
assemblies,
valve seats etc etc. After the new parts were installed and carb and mags
changes etc. specified by Continental were made, the original engine ID
plate
and a 337 signed by a FAA inspector had to be sent in to Continental. They
then
issued a new engine ID plate with the new model number and with the old
serial
number followed by "C". If your engine still has the original ID plate, I
would
doubt that it was ever converted.
