Coupes: Just read the messages about converting from some other forms of flying to a coupe. I tried it the other way this weekend, what a time.
First, I forgot to that you need feet while taxing on the ground. Turning the steering wheel on a Cherokee, while on the ground is a waste. Ran into the grass several times. Finally solved that by putting one hand on the thottle and sat on the other. Next big problem to overcome was slowing down to land. I'm use to 80 base into final and then slow on short final. Well, full flaps and 70 on long final was a bit scarey, we were crossing several large trees at the end of the runway. I kept thinking I was fine @ 75 and the pilot beside me, several million hours as a jet driver, kept wanting me to slow down more. It's not natural to fly that slow. The summary of this is: I flew my coupe home after six touch and go's the day I got it. I had never been into a coupe before that. It would take a good day to convert me back to a three place control plane. Fred knew how to build a plane. On rudder pedals: If you've got'em keep'em, if not why bother. Mine has them. I started to remove them, but left it as is. I'm kind of tall and would like to have the leg room, but I'm also lazy and the work was more than I wanted to deal with.
