Hi everyone,
I hope all of you have a happy new year. I, on the other hand, am
about to embark on what appears to be a very unpleasant experience in
Ercoupe repair. Yesterday my fuel seepage turned into fuel dripping and
my engine refused to run properly at any speed other than idle or full
throttle. The mechanic says the whole fuel system need to be removed,
inspected, and repaired. :-( The only good thing is he will allow me
to remove the parts to save some money. The plane is a '46 Ercoupe
415-D with a C-90 engine. My questions are:
Can the carburetor be removed without pulling the front cowl/nose and
prop?
Are rebuilding parts still available for Stromberg carbs?
Can the cowl tank be removed without pulling the entire instrument
panel, control column, and various cables/wires? Can just the yokes and
cables/wires be removed?
What is the best way to remove the wing tanks?
This appears to be an incredibly nasty job at best. I'm hoping someone
who has done this work has some helpful tips.

Thanks,
Dan
