Heh. I am trying to move away from NFS. I want a cross-platform network 
filesystem which supports authentication (other than kerberos) as well 
as fine-grained access control. Additionally, NFS on a switched gigabit 
network can drop a lot of packets in UDP mode, actually making it slower 
than TCP mode. Switching to TCP mode suddenly removes the last benefit 
of using NFS: speed.

But I do agree with you about the challenges of mapping back and forth 
and back again.
