You are either:
(a) running a very old version of courier-imap (3.x), or
(b) have replaced the courier-imap 4.x startup scripts with broken ones.

In either case, people here are probably not going to be interested in
providing help. In case (a), please upgrade. In case (b), if you break the
scripts, you get to keep the pieces.

'man couriertcpd'. Look at the -user option. You can add it to TCPDOPTS in
the imapd config file. (However this probably only applies to courier-imap
4.x)
