Nowhere does it say that 2+2=4 either. 

Mathematical concepts that have been in place for a few hundred years define 
a range as something that's delimited by a lower bound, and an upper bound. 
It is not necessary to restate mathematical axioms in every published 
document that relies on them. 

Any IMAP mail client that specifies a higher starting range and a lower 
ending range is broken, and needs to be fixed.
