My imap store (~/Maildir/...) is on the company server, attached to the
Internet via a T1 link. The server is usually, but not always
available. The server is on the Internet, but is not close by (about 20
hops and two firewalls from me.)
I have a gig of stored email, and a very nice network at home, and so,
at home, I would prefer my workstation to read/search/operate on the
local copy of the imap store.
When away from home, I would like my laptops to use either:
A) the company imap store on the t1
or maybe even
B) a local on the laptop imap store (what's a gig?)
And then at various times I would resync the imap stores (using unison
perhaps).
Among the benefits I perceive would be:
a) faster access to old messages
b) access when the primary server is down or unavailable
What's the best way to approach this? Via:
1) fetchmail?
2) unison/rsync?
3) some well known imap service/setup?
4) mua client's offline support?
5) other?
Thanks for the advice,
Jerry
