No, Courier will never succeed to send to such recipients:

Obviously (and correctly), it takes the IP address as a domain name, looks it up, and 
fails.

I understand that I am able to send mail to domains with broken MX records by 
modifying 'esmtproutes', but somehow this occurs to me to be an ugly kludge.  If one 
of my users wants to send mail to a <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> address, he can't because he 
doesn't have administrative rights over my Courier installation.
