I would imagine its something along the lines of wanting to hand
messages from scripts, cron jobs, and whatever else, directly to
maildrop for delivery.

I'm copying this to the folks that made these requests, either we'll get
some more feedback as to why they wanted it, or they'll know why they
aren't getting it.
