Hi all,
Apologies if this issue has already been raised (and solved), I've
just rejoined the mailing list (long story) and haven't had time to
search the archives fully yet nor to check bug reports.
Today I upgraded my Courier-IMAP installation from courier-imap
v4.6.0-2.1 to v7.7.0-2010-316-1, and Courier-base from v0.63.0-2.1 to
v0.64.2-1 (All version number as listed in /var/log/dpkg.log, on a
Debian unstable system).
Since then, whenever I access any IMAP folder for the first time
through my email client OR even log in to the IMAP server, I get an
error message about FAM/Gamin.
I've scoured log files to find any mention of requiring FAM on the
server and can't. I didn't see any warnings while 'apt-get upgrade'
was running about courier-{base,imap} now requiring FAM nor can find
any obvious configuration options relating to that either, and
would've expected a new requirement of a FAM-type application be
installed as a dependency by apt-get/dpkg...
I've restarted the IMAP server, and restarted the virtual server in
which I have courier-imap running.
The ONLY log entries I can see are, which are repeated for each login
attempt:
May 17 05:08:57 imap imapd: .: Input/output error
May 17 05:08:57 imap imapd: This may be a problem with FAM or Gamin
The first line varies in that the '.' is replaced with the IMAP folder
location when trying to access an IMAP folder ("Courier Mailing lists"
appears as a sub-folder under the inbox) ie:
May 17 11:39:39 imap imapd: ./.Courier Mailing lists: Input/output error
May 17 11:39:39 imap imapd: This may be a problem with FAM or Gamin
There are NO errors logged in /var/log/mail.log as part of
Courier-IMAP starting up, where I'd expect to see some request about
FAM support being required but not available.
Is this an issue with Courier-IMAP, Courier-base or a Debian packaging
issue?
