Hi Andy, I'm from Six8 Bromham, a smaller coworking space in Richmond. Every couple of months the owners of Hub Melbourne, Open Hub, Inspire9, Hive Studio, myself and one other soon to open space meet for lunch and to talk about coworking in Melbourne and how we're all going. You're right, we don't see each other as competition. We are very open with each other about businesses, share tips with each other, and often refer members to each other where we think one of the other spaces might be a better fit for someone.
As suggested, get in touch with me or one of the other owners - I'm sure the others wouldn't mind me saying that any of us would be happy to have a coffee and share what we know. Beyond that, if/when you start getting really serious about opening a space (I've known several that thought the idea sounded great, but the novelty eventually wore off) we'll get you along to one of our lunches to meet the other owners.
