Scott, this is great! We're kind of twins. We opened our first center in a small town in California in May 2009! We've got 7 of them up now (did have 8, but closed one), all in smaller communities -- and yes, profitable. I think the key(s) for smaller communities is to be highly efficient, be able to offer a wide range of spaces/times/services, and be thoroughly connected in your community. It's important to be able to offer 24/7 usage for members but to run with 1 staffperson, hence efficient automation and software. Would love to connect offline!
