This looks very good! I like both aspects of your changes. I'd suggest to set up an abyss git branch for you. Once you're finished, we would like to have this in the game :) > There are still a number of features I'd love -- screaming dungeon > monsters popping into sight in translocational clouds This is cool, but not as urgent as the others (as you know) > ...the abyss getting harder as a function of: 1) absolute depth on > banishment, 2) time spent in the abyss, 3) translocation use in the > abyss, 4) how much Lugonu (dis)likes you -- but I think this is a start. This is welcome. Let me mention two other related bits that were mentioned some time: a) In his ##crawl appearance, Linley mentioned that he originally wanted the Abyss to be infinite instead of a torus-like level of standard size. I don't know if this is a great idea, but I thought I'd mention it. b) When I designed Lugonu, the original idea of self banish (and also of escape from Abyss) was to make it non-instant. For example, self-banish would keep a small neighbourhood of the player and make an Abyss level around it. I believe that your change would allow to implement that? With such a change, Lugonu's power is still strong but not a one turn lifesaver anymore, and this would allow us to get rid of the silly metacost for using the power (some points of max HP).
