I guess this is not *that* interesting from a blender perspective unless you : a- don't care about using non free software b- wanted to use prman all along but couldn't afford the license c- are not going to use it for commercial things or: d- will buy the now much cheaper license
Other than that- I suspect this move from Pixar is actually to try to save prmans marketshare from dwindling, as there are several other renderers + in house solutions that are taking over. Vray, Arnold both come to mind. There is no source code release with this and I doubt it is actually very useful from dev standpoint. As read before other releases from Pixar/Disney have been much more interesting (FLOSS releases like the afformentioned OpenSubdiv which is currently being integrated and that I'm quite hyped about) On Wed, 2014-06-04 at 11:34 +0200, Camille Bissuel wrote: > Ok, I read too quickly... > > > I was thinking to OpenSubdiv for example > http://www.blendernation.com/2014/05/12/pixars-opensubdiv-coming-soon-to-blender/ > https://github.com/PixarAnimationStudios/OpenSubdiv > > > but it's apache licensed, not the same. > > > Here is the official annoucement : > http://renderman.pixar.com/view/25946 > > and the EULA : > http://renderman.pixar.com/view/ncr-eula > > > Which say : > 3.
