Hi all, Another use-case for working offline with the Committers Package just came up – big pop-up: “ Code Recommenders cannot download its model repository index. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet. If so, check our FAQ for help on resolving this issue. “
So I checked the FAQ, but didn’t get much wiser. Sure I can “Silently ignore future download failures”. But I’d rather want to either turn off the feature pro-actively, or download the model repository for offline use. Any help here? Thanks Johannes, So it looks like I’ll need to craft a –pluginCustomization for the eclipse.ini to turn it off programmatically / via switch. I can live with that – thanks ! Hi, This is the RSS News reader. It can be disabled via a preference: /instance/org.eclipse.recommenders.news.rcp/newsEnabled Set its value to false to disable automatic news polling. In the UI, the setting can be found at Preferences > General > News > Enable automatic news polling Hope that helps. Johannes Oberhuber, Martin wrote: Hi all, Just noticed another “calling home” kind of feature: eclipse-committers-oxygen-M7 shows “polling news feeds” in the progress occasionally. Does anyone know how to turn that off? Thanks so much for the quick answer, Ed! I’ve added that System Property and will run with it for a while. Still wondering if USS could also be turned off for the MPC (or globally for all clients?), but MPC is by far not so important since users of MPC are already prepared to access the Internet anyways. Martin, I think -Doomph.setup.sync.skip=true will avoid the use of USS by Oomph. You can host your own index somewhere else as follows: https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_Oomph_Authoring#Hosting_your_own_index_.2F_catalogs On 21/05/2017 7:36 AM, Oberhuber, Martin wrote: Hi cross-project, While testing the brand-new Oxygen M7 packages, I came across an issue that I wanted to share. Plus, I have no solution yet so I’m looking for help! At a customer site, I want to use Oxygen Packages, but I’m sitting behind an authenticating proxy there. So I have no Internet access. And if I had, I’d still want to make sure no data gets sent to the Internet from that customer. I easily found out how to disable AERI, to avoid error reporting reaching out: https://wiki.eclipse.org/EPP/Logging#Disabling_AERI_in_builds_and_runtime_Eclipse But how can I disable the new USS used by Oomph and MPC? I found a related forum thread [1]<https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/1081127/>, but it was no help. What I need is a System Property to turn off all internet access. I still want to use Oomph with locally stored setup tasks, but the attempt using USS or downloading setup.zip must be turned off. Right now, I’m getting several exceptions logged due to Oomph/USS, and I want to get rid of them. But what concerns me more, I think it is a valid use-case disabling all sort of “calling home” by Eclipse. So I think that documentation on how to turn this off must be available very easily!
