I have been in discussions with the people at Software Education about putting on a software conference in Christchurch. Software Education are the main organisers of conferences for software practioners in New Zealand, and they have been very successful at attracting big names to come over and give talks and seminars. For us Christchurch-based companies there has always been the cost of airfares and accommodation to add to the conference fee since events have previously been held only in Auckland and Wellington.
Software Education are happy to consider putting on a Christchurch based event providing there is sufficient demand. Now is your opportunity to speak up - below is a request for ideas from Janice McInerney of Software Education. If you are interested please make sure you reply, as otherwise such conferences will remain in the North Island. We can suggest any topics, not limited to those Software Education already run, and the event can be shorter or very focused if there is good demand for such a format. Note that Alchemy Group has no commercial involvement with Software Education, we are just keen to save some airfares and help provide a local opportunity for the industry. Depending on response, it would be good to link this with the software cluster's activities.
