Hi folks, Just a followup note to the HiTech Awards notice which was circulated recently -- do bear in mind the small print in the Rules of Entry, to wit: 7.A representative of your company will attend the Gala Awards event, at their expense, in Wellington on November 10, 2001. The dinner is $107 per representative. At least it will be cheaper to get there this year than last year in Auckland... FYI: We entered last year after first checking with the organisers about how strict the dinner requirement was (dinner, travel and accommodation made it a pretty pricey requirement for a small operation). We were told that no we wouldn't have to come, they just wanted to make sure that the winners had a rep on the night to pick up their awards, 'cos it was embarrassing to read out names and have no-one come up. Fair enough. We were also told that if we *really should* be there (nudge nudge, wink wink) we'd be rung up and told to get on a plane. That seemed a reasonable compromise. And lo and behold, we *did* get a call a few days before the dinner telling us that it would be very advisable and of great benefit to us if we were at the Awards...*wow* Pressing work deadlines meant we asked a colleague in Auckland to go along as our rep. Just as well we had a cheap option, because the call turned out to be just a way of getting bums on seats... Ah well, at least we didn't pay the costs of exhorbitant last-minute plane fares and hotel bills like a couple of other Christchurch companies who got the same kind of call and who spent the evening watching others get awards... This might sound like sour grapes, but it pays to know what you're in for! Good luck to those Canty folk who do go for it -- we hope to toast your success at a BBQ near you :-) Cheers, Vicki ========================================================= SPIS Ltd, Box 19-760, Christchurch, NZ http://www.spis.co.nz * FREE TurboNote memo: http://TurboPress.com/tbnote.htm * Print-to-Web automation http://TurboPress.com * Web design, automation and hosting specialists --> via Canterbury Software email forum: Success through Connections Email your messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Searchable list archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] Leave or rejoin the list: http://canterburysoftware.org.nz/forum.htm
