Aditya,

You probably failed to understand the contents of my previous mail. I was
probably not interested in the history of MSDNAA.
The thing that I want to say is that, if Microsoft is giving these licenses for
free, through MSDNAA, then you probably need to distribute them for free. I
hope that sounds ethical.

Also, I believe that the MSDNAA account was made for all NSITians, COE and IT (
though CSI-NSIT is managing the stuff ) You need to provide these licenses to
everyone. That's a college account, right.
Now, if I am wrong in the above point, and the scenario is something like that
MSDNAA was provided to only CSI Members of NSIT. Are you guys sure that you
have the permission to sell these licenses to non-CSI members at the quoted
price, probably you require permission from Microsoft for this. Because in case
you don't have the requisite permissions, you cold get yourself+this
society(our college also maybe) into a good deal of trouble.

Regarding the preferences, if you prefer windows over linux. I am no one to
bother you. Sorry for mentioning that in my previous mail.

Regards,
Mohit

charge

I see you guys have valid concerns, let me address them one by one.

Few Doubts :

1.) Are you sure that you have the permission from Microsoft has given you guys
the permission to sell their software for Rs 200. And you are gonna pay a
royalty to Microsoft. In case, you are not doing this then they can charge you
+ nsit +csi-nsit for a hefty fine, probably.
>

MSDN academic alliance was initiated in year 2006. It was exclusive to COE and
IT only. Prof MPS Bhatia approached CSI - NSIT for its successful execution.
Therefore, MSDNAA accounts were created for all IT and COE students of 06
batch. Bhatia Sir then transferred the MSDNAA to CSI-NSIT. The usage by IT&COE
batch of 06 was very low(10-15), but largely, the transfer was due to the fact
that CSI-NSIT was already managing the partnership unofficially. This transfer
allowed for formal control of MSDNAA and also brought MSDNAA access to all
NSITians, by virtue of being CSI members. Formal control means taking full
control of the server, the alliance and being responsible if any mishap
happens. The latter part was necessary for faculty to allow us access.

2.) If you are getting these licenses through MSDNAA then probably you ought to
give these licenses to every nsitian, whosoever wants to have them as the
MSDNAA a/c is meant for representing the college and not a particular society.
>
This particular drive was started so that every NSITian has a chance to get
MSDNAA access without paying for full CSI membership. I think everyone benefits
here. MSDNAA was previously meant only for IT and COE students.

3.) I guess CSI promoted Open Source. I hope you understand that any free
software is not Open Source. P.S. : I am cc'ing the nsit_lug group in case the
great owners/moderators of this csi_nsit forget to approve this mail after
moderation.

CSI - NSIT yahoo user group mirrors open source philosophy. We welcome freedom
of thought and expression, it ensures transparency. However, freedom of thought
is not freedom from thinking, so please insure that mails, if written, are
sincere and polite, with some thought process and logic behind the expressed
opinion.

And Deepank Sir. I fail to understand how is this spam. CSI - NSIT used this
medium to communicate information which we believe would help others in getting
access to better computing experience.
CSI - NSIT is a not a commercial entity. The said promotions are generally for
the benefit for NSITians. I know that being a MS employee, MSDNAA access is
something very frugal to you, but for many, its the 1st time they will be
running a legal version of Windows. Which both you and I know, is totally
different experience.
