I'm working on a site that requires two horizontal
menus to be displayed at the top of every page. An
example of the kind of menu can be found here:

I'm trying to set it up as a couple lists, with their
list items displayed as inline to get them horizontal.
However, width cannot be applied to inline
non-replaced elements. ....
Anyone know a way I can fudge the width of these menu
items, or am I stuck using a table?
Take a look at the list examples at Listamatic (1). A technique used
with the horizontal lists is to float:left each of the list items. You
can easily set a width on the float. The examples will also show you
how padding can be used effectively.
