As a painter and sculptor by day and css junkie by night, I can assure you your unreadable table layout ain't 'gonna cut it for a museum. The 3 column layout on this page <http://www.alistapart.com/articles/negativemargins> will work just fine. The footer will stay in place. And the left column will not be chopped at 800.
