Interesting! But difficult to say ( for me, though) if there is no 
concrete code: lack of data. Does it need to be horizontally liquid? Is 
there a minimum height for the top and/or bottom part? That kind of things.

I give it a good chance that an adapted Liquid Corner's principle will 
do it.

The smaller the fading area , the easier it will be! (convergenting to 
zero ;-) ).
