No, that will not work. Do not modify or change the file.
If you mean what you have is xp ie6, you could download standalone 
versions of ie501sp2_nt.zip and ie55sp2_nt.zip from here 
http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/standalone.
You can also get screen captures of a page you have on a public server 
in win/2000 ie5, 5.5, 6.0 from Browsercam: <http://www.browsercam.com/> 
(although it is rather expensive unless you belong to a subscription group).
And if you post to the list /with/ a clickable uri to your page, you'll 
most times find someone willing to test and/or provide screen shots.
