I don't know whether to write it off as a bug or as a browser-specific
"feature". It is definitely an unexpected effect, as Jukka mentioned.

Indeed. It is a purely academic exercise - as requested, which only
purpose may be to show how one should *not* play around with a browser's
peculiarities if one wants some predictability.

To continue the exercise down the buggy road: I have updated the demo
with an 'em font-resizing bug' fix, which if one resizes to smallest in
IE/win will leave the h2 headline with a font-size of 1.4em, larger than
the h1 headline with a font-size of 1.8em.
