It seems you may be suffering from this: http://filamentgroup.com/lab/a_fix_for_the_ios_orientationchange_zoom_bug/ When I changed orientation, the whole page was zoomed in so when you click a photo, the modal is acting accordingly. If I zoom out first, the modal works as desired.
