Years ago I used the Java3D API to create a 3D drawing application
(http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/java3d/). At the time
the api was not mature and we had to find workarounds for a couple of
issues we encountered. Hopefully it has been improved as at the time
development on the Java3D api was very slow (at one stage ALL the
developers on the project were on holiday!).

Be sure that the machines that run the app (especially machines using
Linux) has the latest drivers installed as we had some strange behaviour
before we figured out it was the screen card drivers on some of the
machines.
