Austin Public Library will host the amazing author/illustrator team of Joyce Dunbar and Debi Gliori on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the Yarborough Branch Library, 2200 Hancock Dr. (454-7208). Their collaborative efforts have resulted in TELL ME WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE BIG and TELL ME SOMETHING HAPPY BEFORE I GO TO BED, published by Harcourt. The program is intended for adults (teachers, librarians, writers and illustrators) who want to learn more about their work and how they collaborate. The program is free and books will be available for sale and autographing. Bring a friend! About TELL ME WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE BIG, Booklist said, "This is a deeply satisfying book, both visually and textually. Little bunny Willa wakes up quite early one morning, gets herself dressed, complete with chicken slippers, but discovers that she's too small to reach breakfast on the table. So she wakes her big brother, Willoughby, who assures her that when she's bigger, she can do it herself. What follows is an utterly charming and natural dialogue about what you get to do when you are bigger. Willa asks if she will ever be bigger than Willoughby, and he says no, "Because I got started first." Finally, they go wake Mom, who says when she was small and woke up early, she went back to sleep, so the three of them snuggle down and do just that. The pictures are full of wonderful patterns in sun-bright colors: wallpaper, jammies, tablecloth, and quilt all glow with delightfully rendered prints. Another winner from the team that brought us Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep (1998)." About TELL ME SOMETHING HAPPY BEFORE I GO TO BED, Hornbook said, "When Willa is afraid of having bad dreams, her understanding older brother Willoughby tells her all of the happy things that will be waiting for her when she wakes up. Endearing illustrations frame the loving and patient Willoughby's responses and comfort young readers along with Willa."
