We don’t get the fine or copy money directly (although it goes into the General Fund which is where our budget is funded from), but we do get the donation money. It goes into a donation account, and then I do a budget amendment to put it into the proper account in my budget (books, children’s programming, whatever). When I got here there was a perception that donation money just disappeared into the city coffers, so I’ve really had to educate our potential donors that we will get the money as long as we go through the proper procedures.

Hope this helps.

If your library gets to keep the fine, copy, & donation money you collect, how is this handled by the county officials so that it is legal, but so that you have easy access to buy books and library materials?
