-Caveat Lector-

One poster:
Republicans, in general, advocate both economic and social
interventions. Libertarians advocate neither. That seems
to me to be a rather greater difference then you would
   indicate above.

Edward Britton wrote:
How, exactly, do Republicans advocate social intervention--apart
from attacking social programs (and their recipients) as the sole
form of government waste? No staunch Republican I have ever met
is for any form of social program other than the punishment of
criminals. The same holds true for Libertarians.

MJ:
Criminalization of drugs, prostitution, gambling, sodomy ...
encouragement of prayer in the government schools, the government
schools themselves ...

How is that for a start?

Edward Britton wrote:
   Fascism: a form of government of the extreme right;
characterized by a functional merging of state and
business interests, and of belligerent nationalism.
Include within this more mechanical definition, a
more subjective statement concerning the partisans
of such a government's need to install same at the
expense of the more defenseless members of society.

fascism (fàsh´îz´em) noun
A system of government marked by centralization of authority
under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression
of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically
a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. A political
philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system
   of government.

This would seem to fit either the democrats OR the republicans
as fascism, like socialism and communism are subsets of Statism.

That same other poster:
Please define what you mean by social Darwinism.

Edward Britton wrote:
The belief in the social equivalent of survival of the
fittest. I.e., "I've got mine, to hell with you."

MJ:
How exactly does one who disapproves of the Government forcibly
taking an arbitrary amount of earnings from an arbitrarily defined
group and redistributing this plunder to another arbitrary group
fall within the confines of 'social Darwinism'?

That same other poster:
I have never heard a libertarian say that they were a social
  Darwinist.
Edward Britton wrote:
And you never will: the "partisans of apathy" (Republicans
and Libertarians) haven't got the guts to present their real
agenda for social scrutiny. Why is it that conservatives
focus only on social problems with respect to governmental
waste and invasiveness? Are there no other, more egregious,
forms of government waste which would warrant the same kind
   of attention?

MJ:
What you describe (haphazardly) as a Republican is NOT a
Libertarian -- grouping them together is dishonest. Read
their (Ls) web page (www.lp.org) and explain what it is that
places them in the confines you attempt. My reading of the
Ls is their desire to end ALL of the Government waste by
restoring this Constitutional Republic to its plainly written
restrictions.

In the communist textbook "PSYCHOPOLITICS," the art of
controlling the thinking of entire populations taught
at the Lenin School of Political Warfare, University
of Moscow since 1933, we read:

The first thing to be degraded in any nation under
conquest must be man himself. ... He must be made
to think of himself as an animal, capable only
     of animalistic reaction patterns.

What exactly does one have when an attempt is made to equate
the abolition of theft ... with 'Social Darwinism'?

A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from
injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free
to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement,
and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has
earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is
necessary to close the circle of our felicity.
