Disease spurs wildlife health alert-

A central nervous system disorder, previously seen only in American
coots and bald eagles, has been documented in the brains of mallard,
wigeon and ringed-necked
ducks in Woodlake, N.C., and spurred a wildlife health alert. The
disease, vacuolar myelinopathy, was identified by pathologists at the
United States Geological Survey National Wildlife Health Center in
Madison, Wis., and the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study
at the University of Georgia.
