When I (after a long time overseas) discovered that "Readers' Digest" had
become garbage, I wrote them a letter advising them of my discovery.  I told
them it had become the house organ of the Republican Party.  One needs only
read the masthead--Evans & Novak, Michael Barrone, etc.    I would never have
noticed, but when I picked it up in a waiting room, I found a lie in one of
the articles, and looked to see where it had been first published.  Then I
took a good look at at and discovered what had happened.  Pity.  Prudy
