And yes, I have heard of people like the Hatfields and the McCoys--two families that were not only relatively poor but also caused a lot of trouble in their communities through their "blood fued" against each other...an endless cycle of murderous revenge. Who do you think got their "just deserts"? The Hatfields and the McCoys? Or do you think that people who are educated and succeed in their chosen professions deserve to die? Even if those profession involve providing service to the community, such as teaching or healing? And no, I'm not talking about billionaire bankers here. Does a young person who loves music, gets his parents support and learns to play the violin, spends years and years practicing, becomes a world class artist and makes a handsome salary for bringing so much pleasure to so many people deserve to die because people are poor in Appalachia? If this violinist is Jewish, does he deserve to die? If he is Christian? Do we in the US all deserve to die because there is now so much poverty in the rest of the world? Many people in other nations certainly think so ....and as the pot reaches the boiling point, this may well become the hot issue. Then it won't matter if you're rich or poor, Christian, Jew, Muslim, or pagan... only that you're American, for Americans will then be the target. I'm not saying I have answers to these questions, but you seem to be posing them, so I am curious about your thinking. IMO, what your thinking suggests is what happens when a society gets economically polarized. The rich are fabulously rich. The poor are desperately poor. And since the rich are so completely protected and inaccessible, the poor turn against the middle-class and those who have just a little more than they do. And the middle-class has little power to change much of anything, they're just struggling to hang on, but they take the brunt of all the anger, while the fabulously rich laugh all the way to the bank. And things just continue to get worse, until the middle-class itself disappears. And there are only the fabulously rich and the desperately poor--slave and master. Something like this happened in Germany just before WWII. sno0wl DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list.
