-Caveat Lector- It's not a matter of genes or blood because once a person converts, they are a member of the Jewish community, no matter what bloodline or gene pool they bring into the community. It's a matter of the commitment to a moral belief system which binds people together. If someone converts out, a blood sample is not the way back into the community. The ancestry part is recognized with the idea that grandparents, parents, etc. have passed on certain patterns of moral beliefs and their origins and even if one is not active in the community, the pattern has been somehow passed on. Whether Jewish or not, we all tend to trust people who say their thinking is similar to one's own. Jews trust those who say they think like Jews. Jew haters trust other Jew haters. Doctors trust other doctors who are part of their group. Osteopaths trust other osteopaths. Teachers have a commonality with other teachers. And so on. Teachers, doctors, and other name groups will stake out what they think is their own territory and will fight anyone who they think infringes. Territory can mean anything from land to status to control of a board. And that's the bottom line of many of the conflicts between humans.
