-Caveat Lector-
Yes, PIR, it appears that U-S-A is "An Empire of
Torture". Do not forget that almost 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians lost their lives
to torture in the decade after Desert Storm. It is torture to deprive POWs of
food, shelter, adequate clothing and medicine. It is torture
to deprive civilians of the same.
Who then is responsible? That should be front stage and centre
of the Saddam Hussein trial. The media would have us believe that he spent the
oil revenue which the UN allowed him, to build lavish palaces while the people
were deprived of necessities of life and died (He certainly wasn't spending it
on WMDs). IF SO THAT IS SADDAM'S GREATEST CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY AND
HE SHOULD PAY THE PENALTY FOR IT.
But what if the trial reveals that the revenues were so small,
they REQUIRED him to use "life-boat ethics" against his own people? Who is
culpable in the crimes against humanity? U-S-A or UN?
