-Caveat Lector- While I will not comment on the potential economic impact of receiving far east goods via Mexico, I question the sources of the below article as several items from the NASCO (http://www.nascocorridor.com/ ) website appear to be misquoted.  The NASCO site also makes secific mention of this conspiracy theory about a superhighway.

"NAFTA Superhighway" - As of late, there has been much media attention given to the "new, proposed NAFTA Superhighway".  NASCO and the cities, counties, states and provinces along our existing Interstate Highways 35/29/94 (the NASCO Corridor) have been referring to I-35 as the 'NAFTA Superhighway' for many years, as I-35 already carries a substantial amount of international trade with Mexico, the United States and Canada.  There are no plans to build a new NAFTA Superhighway - it exists today as I-35.

So while the idea of a "four football field wide" transportation corridor being constructed appears to be false, a plan to make trade through Mexican ports easier and more efficient appears to be mere months from implimentation.

Mexico at a cost of $3 million to the U.S. taxpayers in Kansas City.

As incredible as this plan may seem to some readers, the first
Trans-Texas Corridor segment of the NAFTA Super Highway is ready to
begin construction next year. Various U.S. government agencies, dozens
of state agencies, and scores of private NGOs (non-governmental
organizations) have been working behind the scenes to create the NAFTA
Super Highway, despite the lack of comment on the plan by President
Bush. . . A good reason Bush does not want to secure the border with
Mexico may be that the administration is trying to create express lanes
for Mexican trucks to bring containers with cheap Far East goods into
the heart of the U.S., all without the involvement of any U.S. union
workers on the docks or in the trucks.
